Mesmerising...
Part One of "A Colourful Awakening" - A Nature Embodied Fantasy Story.
Part 1: Mesmerising. (I invite you to Read, or Listen, with your Body)
As I sat staring into the jungle of growth in front of me, my vision suddenly blurred. Something was flying in front of my face. A blur of orange and black, floating, fluttering and eventually landing, right there on my nose. I went cross eyed and froze my movements as I sat in wonder at its beauty. Amazed at this little, yet huge, blessing.
The butterfly flexed its wings, staring at me through beady black eyes. As our vision locked, time seemed to stand still. I felt myself transported into another world.
Colourful rainbow hues of light hovered in the air all around me, in glowy orbits. The world felt bigger. The butterfly and I merging into the same kind of dimensions. It felt flatter and yet so multidimensional that I caught my breath. Magic hung thick in the air. Time slowed. As we continued to gawk at each other, a calmness descended over me.
Slowly I started to feel a fluttering in my chest, as if I’d absorbed and expanded the butterfly to live there. Its wings flapped gently. Gracefully. Caressing the inside of my chest with light-heartedness. The calming sensation descended down into my belly. It was flip flopping. Unsettled. Yet it too expanded and relaxed slowly, as this magical energy descended further. Pelvis, womb, sex, legs, feet… all the way into the Earth.
I felt alive. Electric. Yet deeply calm. The world started to morph around me. The colours became vivid and bright. Animals scuttering around me. I turned to the side and saw a hedgehog with an animated face was looking up at me.
I crouched down to greet it. “Hello little cutie!” I said, and a little hand popped up and squeezed my nose. I fell back in surprise! Had my nose just become a portal??
The hedgehog seemed to be grinning at me. “What’s got you nosing around here?” he asked, still grinning like he knew something I clearly didn’t.
“Hmmm… no idea actually. Do you know?”
My hand reflexed to my mouth. I have no idea where that question came from. It just seemed to pop out!
There was a knowing behind the hedgehog’s eyes, but he just smiled cryptically.
“Come with me” he said, and turned and started walking towards a colourful forest. And when I say colourful, I MEAN colourful. The trees were shades of pink and purple. Bright mustard yellow ferns 2m tall stood beneath them. The light seemed to sparkle in the air around everything there. It really was quite spectacular. Bizarre, and yet it felt natural somehow.
After we’d walked through the forest for several minutes we came upon a fairytale-like cottage. Low to the ground I could almost look over the roof, like a hobbit house. But this one looked more like the house made of candy in Hanzel and Gretyl. Homey, colourful, like the home most children naturally draw, complete with spiralling smoke trail coming out of the chimney.
As I stood gazing at the house, wondering why I’d been brought here, something large moved out from under the doorway. My eyes darted towards it and I staggered back slightly at the sight of an enormous snake slithering towards me.
I froze. Inside me I noticed that -beyond the shock- some part of me expected the snake. Welcomed it. My brain couldn’t compute that but I was so mesmerised by the snake that I let it go.
As it reached me it began sliding up my leg. A little part of me panicked. Yet that calmness was still alive in me. I knew somehow that it didn’t mean me harm. So I breathed deeply, forcing myself to relax.
The snake continued up over my hip, up my back and paused with its head resting on my chest and its body draped over my right shoulder.
I’d closed my eyes and was just taking in the feel of the snake. Its soft scales were cool and caressing on my body. Like a light kiss. Its weight was calming and grounding. Almost comforting. Like a friend leaning on you in a light back hug.
We stayed there, wrapped in each other, for several minutes. I couldn’t believe how calm and peaceful I felt. Yet humming with power. Like I could take on the whole world and all its turbulence. This calm, warrior like energy seemed to seep into me.
Finally the snake lifted and turned her head to look at me. She said “Open your eyes sweet child. There’s no need to be afraid. Let your eyes penetrate. Speak for you. And you too will mesmerise. You will draw people in. Connect on a level your voice could never reach. Trust your presence my love. It’s powerful.”
The snake’s words seemed to spread into me like I had an upside down funnel from my heart to my belly. I started to feel weightier somehow. More luxurious in my presence. It was as if I was looking through the snake’s eyes. Slow and seductive. Barely blinking. I seemed to just stand there in the clearing for hours, as if time stood still. I didn’t have to do anything. Be anything. I just was.
Part 2:
Gradually I began to feel a cool breeze caressing my skin. Goosebumps rose up on my arms, awakening me from my trance. I started to hear birds chirping above me and with each awakening moment, the world became more and more alive. Until it started to almost feel like a cacophony. There was SO MUCH LIFE surrounding me.
I felt a prickling down my spine, which grew gradually stronger and more persistent. It felt like something was coming out of my skin…
